blog 6

1) What are you most looking forward to next semester?

Well next semester there will be snow!!!!! I have less credits next semester only 15, so it will be a tad easier than 18 credits. I really am excited for sociology, everyone says it's going to be horrible but i'm kinda excited.

2) What advice do you have for incoming Freshmen next Fall?

For incoming Freshmen: STUDY!!!!!!!!!!!!! before the exams(like a week before). Also dont procrastinate, I did and it sucks. Really don't do it, its just bad news if you do. Also get energy drinks.....they are amazing. Don't get to caught up with classes try not to take 18 credits, its a pain.

Blog 5

-What are you most stressed-out with at the moment? Is your body re-acting to this stress? Devise a plan to deal with it. (Who do you turn to when you are stressed?)

Right now I am more stressed about my anatomy exam coming up next week. But I am also very stressed about registering for class next semester. I register on Saturday, and that's not a great day to register. So many people will already have registered for classes, and I need certain classes to get into the radiology program.....ERRR.
I am reacting to the stress, I'm starting to get sick, I'm always tired, and I have a migraine...(this sucks).
I'm thinking that after my classes are set for next semester I'll be a bit calmer. Well it's not like I'm really freaked out or anything, I'm just a bit worried. So after that I can just focus on my finals.
When I am stressed I usually go for a walk to let of some steam. Or I go to my brother's house and vent to him about how much I hate school.

Blog number 4

What do you have in common (academically, personally, etc..) with the classmate whose
Blog you chose? Did s/he offer any useful information you will most likely use in the future?

I wrote on was Taelour's blog. We have almost every class together, so it is nice to be able to study with each other. We both share a liking for Harry Potter, and both understand the meaning of "the midget has landed." I liked how she brought up the idea of quizing yourself when studying for a quiz or exam. I never really thought of quizing, usually I just keep on memorizing the material. But quizing myself would help a lot when learning materials.
So I think I'm going to use the quizing technique for my next tests!

UN 100....what it need!

UN100 is a nice class for freshman like me to get to know the campus.......and to actually figure out what we are doing. I personally think that this class gives out to much work to be able to keep everything straight. But I guess thats the whole point, to be able to handle more work then we think we can. I just feel very overwhelmed espeacially when I have 18 credits. I think that if UN 100 could focus more on helping us pass Anatomy (or other class) that would really help. And I could really use that help. Other then that I think that the class is really useful and I really like it.....hahaha that sounds kinda corny!

My 2nd week

Ø Describe your ideal Instructor/Professor.

I would like a professor that is happy, not crabby everyday of the week. Also, they should be personable, be able to talk to everyone like we are adults, not looking down at us.

Ø “I knew it when I studied it, but I forgot it on the test.” How can students study differently to prevent this from happening?

I like to read it to people, or make little phrases to help me to remember better.

Ø How do you study for quizzes/tests?

I re-read everything in my book, then go to my notebook and look over everything. I like to highlight key facts or words.

Ø What do you have trouble with on quizzes/tests?

I have test anxiety(I can't spell....I don't know if it's right) so I get really nervous before tests and in the beginning I feel like I'm going to fail but then I read a couple questions and I relax. Otherwise I don't have to much trouble.....I do hate trick questions though!

My first blog!

List your own quote, favorite saying, song, or other expression of your feelings today.

My favorite song is "The Climb" by: Miley Cyrus. I just really like that song, it inspires me, so then I have a good day!

Ø List initial observations of your new environment.

Living here is a lot different then back at my hometown. There is so much more to do here; go the the beach, go hiking, shopping, go clubbing, and so much more.

Ø List initial observations of your classes.

My classes are going to be hard, especially anatomy, but I think as long as I keep up I will be fine. The teachers are much more stirct and they don't really care if you show up or not.

Ø What observations have you made about other students?

Everyone seems really cool.

Ø About your instructors?

Some are very intimidating, but others seem really nice and welcoming.

Ø What do you think will be your biggest challenge(s) academically this semester?

Anatomy, there just seems like so much that needs to be learned. And if I don't keep up I will end up failing.

Ø Reiterate a term or concept you learned in Anatomy this week.

Frontal View; that is when the body is cut from the anterior to posterier.

Ø List a few pleasant events that happened during your first weeks at NMU.

I met a new person named Kati, shes is in almost all of my classes so I have someone now that can be my lab partener, and hopefully we will be good friends this year.

Ø List habits you already possess that make you successful in college.

I know how to study, and I can manage my time really well.

Ø List habits (timewasters?) you can change or modify, or need to lose.

I don't need to be on facebook that much.

Ø Explain how you determine what to write down in notes during lectures.

I look for the main words, and facts. If i can cut down a sentence into only a few words i can understand i will.

Ø Based on your first readings in the TCB text, describe the differences between Active Learning & Passive Learning (reading, note-taking, etc..)

Active learning is when you learn from visuals and demonstrations. Passive learning is learning by lectures.

Ø Based on your first readings in the BT text, list TWO of favorite quotes and explain why they "speak" to you.

"Dorm rooms are a setup for failure. Your're surrounded by every deistracion you can possibly think of."
This one is so true, it is so hard for me to go and study in my dorm when everyone else is having fun.

"I like paper planners....anything electronic getslost, stolen or falls in the toilet."
This is true I have dropped so many of my phones into the toilet that I just stopped getting new phones. I like paper planners because you can just carry it with you and you can write or rewrite everything.

Ø Finally, name one goal (personal, academic, etc..) you have for yourself next week.

I really need to study for my B201 exam next week, I want to get a good grade.
